Blog Action Day

By: Drew Meyers, Zillow.com | October 15, 2008

Today is the second annual Blog Action Day, with the goal of bringing all bloggers together to focus for one day on a single cause. This year the subject is fighting poverty in an effort to raise awareness and encourage a global discussion. Lani at Agent Genius has done a great job profiling a number of those in the real estate industry involved in various efforts focused on fighting poverty. I’d encourage you to read all of their profiles to give you ideas as to all the different ways you can make a difference in the lives of others (I’ll add links as Lani posts new profiles):

Thank you to everyone who devotes some of their time toward fighting poverty — no one can alleviate poverty by themselves, but if everyone acts together, anything is possible.

My efforts pale compared to the others, however, i have altered my business practices to support more people in need. Instead of giving a silly fruit cake of wreath for the holidays, I started making a contribution to Heifer International on behalf of all my clients for that year. I believe in the philosophy of Heifer to teach sustainability and for recipients to give part of their gift “down line.”

    Kevin-
Though I wish they’d stop sending me newsletters in the mail since it’s a waste of money, I’m a big fan of Heifer International. Two years ago I gave my whole family christmas gifts (hens, trees, etc) from Heifer.
