I’m a forum /message board / blog junkie. What can I say, it’s a sickness…

Yesterday, I ran across this comment on a real estate forum discussion on blogging:

“Blogs are the Pet Rocks of today. Everyone has one but they don’t really do anything.”

Hmmm….While I will agree that real estate blogging may be the “fad of the day”, I simply can not accept that “they really don’t do anything.”

I’m sure I don’t need to spell out to anyone reading this blog what the benefits of real estate blogging are. Suffice it to say that increasing your web presence, building a line of communication, displaying your expertise and personality, learning from and teaching others, and lead generation are generally considered good things.

Fad or not, blogs — and the power potential they have — are not going away any time soon. Jim Cronin once tomatoized some interesting observations that 96% of real estate bloggers will fail. I suspect that statistic will prove to be remarkably accurate.

It certainly does not mean that blogs “don’t really do anything” — such a statement, to me anyway, demonstrates how there are people (a lot of people is my guess) out there that clearly do not “get it”.

And those people are going to be the ones left standing on the corner watching and wondering why the real estate world is passing them by.

    “Tomatoized” - That’s awesome!

I just laugh at people who think that real estate blogs don’t work. My apprentice for project blogger is proof that a locally focused blog can attract clients. Kevin Warmath who targets a northern suburb of Atlanta gets 2-3 calls per week from his blog. That’s proof enough to me.

    News flash!

    Blogs do not work.

    Blogs do work.

    Websites don’t work.

    Websites Work!

To define work as bringing more success, the fact is most dont work. Just like most agents aren’t successful. Perretto in full force. That is 80/20 rule.

Blogging is the flavor of the day. In the end it is just a website with a few niceities that most don’t utilize anyway.

But that does not mean it cannot be used affectively.

Most advertisements fail to reach their full potential. But we all know of others that changed companies if not the world.

Blogs work if you make them work but participating. It’s kind of like build it and they will come or I should say participate and they will comment.

I say to those who puke on blogging to (putting is as politely as possible) open the curtains to their abdominal window and see the world. Blogging has been and will continue to be a great tool for me, as well as many others. I am slowly building loyal readers. Still waiting for the calls to come in, but, that will be earned with time. For those who lack commitment, fortitude, endurance and imagination, the caboose has room for you. The rest of us will be in the engine running the train.

While I am a baby blogger, it makes sense that this form of marketing takes time and determination. My expectation is that if I keep on keeping on…this is really going to pay off. Plus, it is cheaper than therapy.

    Jennifer-
I just took a look at your blog and it’s looking good - keep up the good work!

I’ll agree with Tim and Jim. Just like 10% of agents sell 90% of the homes, most bloggers will not put in the effort to become their local real estate portal of choice for consumers.
